My father had a routine knee replacement that became infected and needed to be redone. 6 weeks after that second surgery, the replacement knee became infected once again. This time was much worse than the first and he ended up septic and in the ICU. They had to do the surgery again and this time replaced it with a cement spacer for a knee. Nothing was going right and my father was weaker and emotionally drained. I don’t think my father or any of the family was prepared when they talked about discharge and all of the services he would need. Antibiotics, dressing changes, physical therapy, occupational therapy and pain medications had us all spinning. We were referred to Vital Care Boston and honestly things could not have gone smoother. Ashley and Gloria took the reins and made us all feel extremely comfortable. They went above and beyond to comfort us and reduce our anxiety. They took charge of the scheduling and treatments so nothing got missed. One of the scariest moments of my life was putting my wife in our car at 10pm and driving home from Mass. General after a major surgical procedure that she had been admitted for at 8am that same day. And, one of the most relieving moments of my life was being met in our driveway at 10:30pm by Ashley. She looked at me, and my wife, and said "I got this".

Throughout the following week, Ashley and Gloria took care of not only my wife's physical well-being, they took care of our mental health needs as well. From direct care of wound healing, to medication support, to helping us communicate with various doctors, we felt extremely at ease in the hands of Ashley and Gloria. Because of their assistance with my wife's physical needs, I was able to focus on her anxiety and fear following the procedure, and the needs of our children.

Additionally, all the while they were caring for us, they were also teaching us, how to change bandages, how ensure medication compliance, even how to bathe without impacting the wound. So, when they did leave, we knew, we had this.
